The Case for Regular Mutual Funds!

Investors have to pay approximately 1% extra on regular plans. YES, it is an extra cost.

In any particular mutual fund scheme, you can earn MORE in a direct plan as opposed to a regular plan. All of this is true. The influencers on social media have not been lying to you. But why stop here?

Here are other ways you can save money:
If you can treat yourself, you can save money on a doctor's fee.
If you can come up with the correct legal strategies, you can save on the lawyer's fee.
If you “choose” not to be depressed, then you can save on the psychologist's fee.
If you can fix small things at home, you save on handyman fees.

I posed this question to a friend of mine. Let’s call him Suresh.
Suresh: But I see value in these services.
Me: What can be more important than money?
Suresh: True. But I can get advice from YouTube or AI these days.

Suresh is not alone in this. Most people think that financial advice is restricted to a simple question of where to invest. But he is wrong on 3 counts:
1. The advice is never one time; it changes with time. Markets are dynamic.
2. In times of stress, in times of volatility, personal or financial, you need to think through things with someone who is on your side, isn’t emotional and is an expert
3. Last but not least, he knows you. This is a long-term relationship. Given the rising divorce rates, the duration of this relationship might exceed your relationship with your spouse (hopefully not)

So I know Suresh. I know he talks a big game, but gets affected and disheartened by small losses in life. I know that his mother is a single parent and is dependent on him. I know he has a job where his boss hates him and is looking to let him go. Lately, he has struggled with anxiety over the smallest things.

I know this, so I can plan for them.
But please go ahead and save the 1%!
