Nifty is at all-time highs… so why does your portfolio look like a crime scene? Feels unfair, right?

And honestly — it’s not your fault. Not completely.
I dug into the Nifty Total Market Index over the last one year.
Here’s what the numbers reveal:

67% of stocks are in the red.

Almost
half have fallen more than 10%.

33% have dropped more than 20%.

Around 25% of stocks delivered more than 5% returns.

So yes — the index is rising basis a few stocks with higher weightages rising disproportionately.
But most stocks aren’t.

This is what a negatively skewed market looks like.
A structure where the odds tilt against the average investor…
and where your portfolio can bleed even during a bull run.

So if you’ve been blaming yourself, stop.
This isn’t a reflection of your skill — it’s the math of the market.

So what now?
Stay with your process.
Stick with your thesis.
Volatility is the price for long-term returns.
Patience today → rewards tomorrow.
